I’m so excited that my Yoga for Men course starts this Thursday 7th May and I only have a couple of spaces left! I think it really appeals to guys to have their own space, to let go, have fun, learn together and feel that sense of connection and community that’s integral to a yoga class but is sometimes a bit daunting to step into when there are super experienced and confident bendy Wendys on the next mat.
The course will cover the basics of a power class to ensure that the practice can be tailored to work for you so that you don’t feel hindered by any variations you might want to make for knees, back issues etc. There will be more attention paid to hips, shoulders and hamstrings which are traditionally areas where men suffer from more tightness and can lead to weakness or injury. I’ll still offer progressions for those who want them but often just holding the posture for longer is going to have a massive training effect.
The 4 week course will run Thursdays 7, 14, 21 May and 4th June at Alexandra Infants, Alexandra Road, Kingston KT2 6SE 7.45-8.45pm. The cost is £48 payable in advance.
Note – Men are of course welcome to come to any of the other all-level mixed classes however this might give you the confidence to let go, take a risk, have fun with it and discover what works best for you.
If you think you’re someone who’d really like to get to grips with some yoga basics and build some core strength, please get in touch either on the contacts page or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
What a joy to get a bunch of men together to try yoga for the first time! They bantered, they breathed beautifully, they groaned and they sweated and they made it through their first class safe in the knowledge that there were no lycra-clad pretzels tying themselves intimidatingly in knots next to them on the mat. They’d all been nudged gently by their partners and wives to come along to this pop-up Power Yoga class and I was so full of inspiration after the class at the open hearted and trusting way they just got on with it, throwing shapes and themselves into the practice but working with compassion and integrity.
If you think you’d like to experience this wonderful all male, non-competitive, friendly and welcoming practice I’ll be starting a short men-only beginners Power Yoga course soon, so look out for the details. Each week will have a different focus to introduce you to some basics so that you can release, relax, connect, move freely and breathe with confidence during a class.
Or you can drop me a line to register your interest and I’ll add you to the list.
So many men I know struggle with tight hamstrings, hips and shoulders and know they would benefit from trying yoga but need a little nudge to try it out. As men’s needs are fundamentally different to women’s, this men-only pop-up class will focus on stretching those tight areas that can become a problem if left untouched.
Maybe you’re a runner or a cyclist and your chosen sport has created weaknesses from over training. Maybe you’re not a sportsman but have developed a tweaky back, have poor core strength or a just feeling a little stressed out.
Yoga is designed to balance your muscular strength with flexibility and will provide many other benefits like reducing blood pressure, improving mental focus for your chosen sport, reducing the risk of injury, improving balance and generally making you feel less stressed and give you more power to deal with your everyday life.
Power Yoga is dynamic, athletic, energising. To benefit fully, why not start at the beginning and break down the postures so that you have the knowledge and kinaesthetic experience to mould your own practice to fulfill your personal needs.
